Mondo Zen is a key element of Jun Po’s legacy, and a core practice in Hollow Bones Zen.

This year, join Lloyd Roshi and Taiso Roshi for in-depth practice of Mondo Zen. This retreat will enrich, expand, and challenge our understanding of Mondo Zen through an interplay of dialogue-based inquiry and concentration-meditation. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the power of the Emotional Koan process, which aims to deconstruct the belief-emotive-cognitive-behavioral chain.

If you are a new practitioner, this will be an excellent opportunity to explore questions you may have about Mondo Zen. For established practitioners, we invite you to ground in the essence of Jun Po’s teachings and further your expression of the dharma in a group setting.

This retreat will hold space for examining questions, such as:

  • Where do you find barriers to Zen practice and understanding the dharma?
  • What are your biggest challenges when it comes to embodying the dharma?
  • What discomfort do you have around not knowing?
  • What obstacles arise when you try to engage in pure listening?
  • How can you maintain awareness that Clear Deep Heart Mind does not come and go?
  • How can you deconstruct your negative emotional reactions, particularly those involving anger, shame, or disconnection?
  • How can you respond to difficult situations with integrity and wisdom?
